Air transport prices broke through last year's highest point

It is reported that the East China Administration of civil aviation of China announced that due to the International Import Expo to be held in Shanghai from November 5 to 10, the passenger to cargo flights will not be approved before November 13. Shanghai Pudong Airport has not allowed the entry of dangerous goods and super large goods. Many flights were cancelled last weekend. Therefore, the reported air transportation cost has increased dramatically since last week.

A large number of goods originally planned to leave the port by Shanghai international air transport have to seek airport air transport in surrounding cities, which directly promotes the price rise of surrounding cities and even international air transport. It is estimated that it will break 100 again!

Since the launch of the Baltic sea air freight index, the price of each kilogram has broken through the US dollar mark of 105.9% since September 2015, which is about 64% higher than that of the previous year.

Some freight forwarders said that the cost of regular air transportation and charter flights had "explosive growth". In order to avoid container transportation delays, some air transportation prices increased tenfold in a week.

According to the international air transport organization IATA, compared with 2019, the freight volume in 2021 will increase by 7.9%, and the demand will be 13.2% higher than the level before the great popularity. Revenue is expected to rise to a record $175 billion and yields are expected to increase by 15%. With the global maritime transport capacity approaching the limit and the price advantage shrinking sharply, the soaring international air transport price is actually composed of many factors:

1. The continuation of the global supply chain crisis, as well as the reduction of transport capacity and empty container shortage of major routes by shipping companies. With the usual recovery of the world economy, the manufacturing industry continues to grow, and it is also in the peak promotion season of Amazon. In order to avoid the impact caused by the delay of payment, suppliers use faster air transportation than sea transportation to compensate for the lost time in the process of consumption.

2. Due to the repeated outbreak of the recent domestic epidemic, more than 10000 flights were cancelled at 27 ten million airports in China, including congestion in Hong Kong and Shenzhen due to the cancellation of flights by airlines. In addition, covid-19 has cancelled 2211 flights since October 29th due to severe weather problems and shortage of personnel under the new crown pneumonia epidemic. Due to the shutdown of passenger aircraft, there is a serious lack of air cargo capacity, which constitutes an accelerated rise in prices.

3. The cost of air freight related to container transportation is still highly competitive. Before the crisis, the average price of air transportation was 12.5 times that of sea transportation. In September 2021, the price of air transportation is only three times that of sea transportation. In the first quarter of 2021, air cargo increased by 5.6% compared with the first quarter of 2019, while container throughput increased by 6.1%.

Shipping costs have risen sharply, and the surge in logistics costs is an inevitable trend at this stage. It is estimated that the freight rate will continue to reach a new high this year, and will remain above the level before the epidemic in the long term.
